The Graduate Study Rooms offer a quiet space only for graduate students where they can pursue research and writing in support of the program degree. Access to the Graduate Study Rooms is available for current academic year to University of Pittsburgh graduate students with a valid Pitt ID..
Students can gain access by submitting the Graduate Study Request Form. You will be notified by email when permission is granted.

The PhD Dissertation Writing Carrels provide a quiet place to work for students who have passed their comprehensive exams, who are currently taking dissertation credits, and who are pursuing dissertation research and/or are in the writing phase of their program.
Assigned PhD carrels are available on a first-come, first-served basis to Pitt PhD program candidates with a valid Pitt ID. To request a carrel:
- Complete, sign, and have your school’s Graduate Program Director sign the PhD Dissertation Writing Carrels Eligibility Form.
- Return the completed form to the Hillman Library Donald S. Wood Service Desk. You will receive confirmation of your request via email.
