Grad and Professional Student Orientation Activities

Several events take place at the start of the fall semester each year to orient our new graduate or professional students to Pitt and Pittsburgh. Navigate all the activities so you don't miss out on important information about resources and opportunities to engage with your peers from all of the 14 graduate schools.

Three Minute Thesis Competition

The 3MT competition celebrates the exciting research conducted by Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and  Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) students. Developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), 3MT cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. The competition supports their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

Workshops and Other Events

Each semester the Office of the Provost - Graduate Studies hosts webinars, resource fairs, and trainings to address topics ranging from graduate program career paths to student-parenting resources. Visit  Workshops and Other Events to see a schedule of upcoming and recent events, often with links to shared materials and session recordings.

Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week

Each April, the University of Pittsburgh participates in the annual Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week. See the 2021 event page for details about events that took place for the last academic year, and watch for updates about the 2022 Appreciation Week events.
